Whats on your bookshelf?

Whats on your bookshelf?

“What are you reading?” and “What’s on your bookshelf” is a question more reflective of who we really are. The first thing that book lovers look at when they visit someone’s home is their bookshelves. What books do they have? Each home has a completely different and interesting collection of books and each book tells a different story. They say “A man’s bookcase will tell you everything you’ll ever need to know about him.”

Great books give our senses a workout. They make us laugh, cry and expand our emotional horizons, provide us with new perspectives, teach us about different realities, free us from feeling alone, and above all make us feel alive! How books are meaningful to us depends on the books that shaped our outlook on life, the ones they keep returning to, and those which couldn’t bear to be parted from.

With all the eBooks bouncing around out there these days, its hard to see the number increasing in your bookshelf. Sometimes, we even give away the books from our shelf to the library to reduce the space. But the primary set of books are the treasures we will never discard. The books on the bookshelf are your oldest friends. So true. There is no friend as loyal as books. Some people just love to look at their bookshelf. They may read one time or many. But even if they don’t, they just want to know they’re there, exactly like old friends, whose faces (or covers) remind of the good times being shared.

Some tend to hang on to art books and some on  cookbooks though they may never use the recipes. Some have books of poetry. While some may have a collection of biographies too.

“A room without books is like a body without a soul.” These are the books that make us happy in the journey of our life. I’m sure you have your complete works collections, those you can’t live without.
